Trump States 'Generally, There Is Consensus' on Next Stages of Truce Agreement for Gaza

US President Donald Trump has stated that "in general, agreement exists" on how the next stages of the Gaza ceasefire plan will proceed, though he admitted that "a few particulars … will be finalized."

"They're gathering them currently," he stated, referring to the hostages still held in Gaza. "They find themselves in pretty rough locations."

President Trump, who has been praised by the group and many in Israel for his role in brokering a truce agreement, said he believes the accord will "hold" because "both sides are weary of the conflict."

Planned Conference on Gaza Issue

Meanwhile, the president intends to bring together global figures for a high-level meeting on the issue during his trip to Egypt next week. Among those expected to join are representatives from the Federal Republic of Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Italy, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and the Republic of Indonesia.

Based on sources, PM Netanyahu is not expected to attend.

Trump's Itinerary

He confirmed that he would confer with a "lot of leaders" in Cairo on next Monday to talk about the future of the Gaza Strip. It has been reported that he will also visit Israel, where he will speak before the Knesset.

Significant Events

  • Many of Palestinian residents returned to the heavily destroyed northern Gaza on Friday as a US-brokered ceasefire was implemented. The remaining 48 hostages—some 20 of them believed to be surviving—will be freed by the start of the week.
  • Questions remain over the future governance of the region as forces retreat step by step and whether the group will give up weapons, as stipulated in Trump's ceasefire plan. The Israeli leader, who called off a halt in fighting in March, suggested that the country might resume its offensive if they does not relinquish its weapons.
  • The United Nations was granted permission by Israeli authorities to begin delivering expanded aid into Gaza from Sunday. The relief will involve a large quantity that have been stored in nearby nations such as the Kingdom of Jordan and the Arab Republic of Egypt as aid workers awaited authorization from Israeli forces to resume their operations.
  • An official he informed reporters on the end of the week that petrol, healthcare materials, and essential items have started flowing through the crossing point. UN officials are calling for authorities to unseal further border crossings and guarantee secure passage for aid workers and civilians who are coming back to parts of Gaza that were under heavy fire up until lately.
  • The leader the head of state censured Israel on Saturday for executing overnight strikes on civilian facilities that the health ministry said killed at least one person. "Yet again, the south of Lebanon has been the object of a atrocious attack by Israel against civilian structures—unjustifiably or excuse," the president said.
  • Israeli authorities disclosed a list of the Palestinian detainees that it plans to free as part of the peace accord agreed upon with Hamas. From the 250 individuals, 15 will be let go in East Jerusalem, one hundred to the region, and 135 will be expelled. At first, when representatives of the group presented a list of proposed prisoners to be let go to negotiators in the Arab Republic, they called for the release of prominent individuals such as the activist. However, the prime minister's team affirmed it will not agree to release him.
