The retailer's Glittering Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Legendaries Promotion Persists to Face Issues
In late September, The Pokémon Company and Nintendo unveiled a partnered event with the gaming retailer. Until October 15, Glittering versions of the iconic legendary Pokémon from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet were offered at brick-and-mortar GameStop locations in the United States and at EB Games outlets in New Zealand and Australia. Involved local stores in additional nations such as Japan and France have also been included in the campaign.
Initial Problems and Supply Issues
Nonetheless, the promotion faced difficulties from the beginning—Pokémon fans reported that their nearby shops had exhausted their code supplies in the period before the giveaway. Now, midway into the promotional period, GameStop has replenished codes, but it's likely your nearest outlet has already run out.
Due to overwhelming demand, the first wave of complimentary Shiny Koraidon and Miraidon codes went very quickly.
On Saturday, October 4, GameStop announced a code restock via social media. The company's statement noted that they had worked with Pokémon's creators to provide additional codes, but there's a catch. "Pokémon has given us a limited number of receipt codes, around 50 per location."
Reselling and Exploitation Issues
Stores initially received fifty codes, but they quickly ran through them. Despite the promotion limiting codes to a single code per individual, some eBay listings surfaced with multiple codes for sale. This has continued for the new round of codes. A prominent response on social media commented, "Are these the codes?" accompanied by images of eBay listings for the codes, with one listing having several codes on offer.
Varied Outcomes for Fans
Some players managed to obtain codes during the weekend from their local stores, while some had no such luck. "Hoping for a third opportunity. Just called my GameStop. They’re out of codes (again)," one individual remarked, before other players stepped up and provided them with spare codes for Shiny Koraidon and Shiny Miraidon.
Unanswered Questions
The reason these shiny legendary Pokémon weren't earned through a in-game Tera Raid or distributed digitally via the Mystery Gift feature is still unclear. At present, you'll have to head to your nearest retailer and pray they have codes remaining if you want a shiny version of these legendary Pokémon.
