The Mighty Nein's Opening Sequence Selected the Wrong Popular RPG Show Song

The Mighty Nein, the newest animated series from the beloved role-playing group, revealed an exciting introductory sequence. It showcases our favorite cast of misfits, outcasts, and rogues kicking ass and making their mark, while also hinting at several heart-wrenching backstories for characters including Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and another actor's warlock orc, the character Fjord.

All in all, the opening looks stunning. However, I felt that an element was missing in the song choice.

The intro employs "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional song composed by artist Colm McGuinness. This piece from the soundtrack album of that title, the second release released by the production company's music division their music brand. It's a wonderful sentimental option, and I believe that devotees of the sequel series will love its presence.

Personally, The series' intro doesn't quite capture the hype and energy that accompanied the show's actual-play adventure. "It's Your Turn", written by musician the artist, was an instant classic in my view when it was first revealed in 2015, and it only got better when co-founder the performer wrote words to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.

Including singing from Ashley Johnson, another performer, a co-star, as well as the writer, the track was memorable and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't seen the second campaign yet, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my phone. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you start an installment of adventurous fun.

The show's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" fails to hit the right notes for me. It's an impressive piece of music, but based on my understanding of this party, I can't help but feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.

Naturally, Critical Role has already said that the animated show will have some surprises and variations from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its opening seems to be one of them.

The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on Prime Video from Nov. 19. For those eager until then, or want a head start to get to know the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are accessible on the audio platform and YouTube.
