Nigel Farage Claims Educators of ‘Poisoning Our Kids’ on Racial Topics
Nigel Farage has asserted that educators would initiate walkouts shortly after a Reform UK election victory, accusing them of “poisoning our kids” by telling children that black pupils are victims and Caucasian students are perpetrators.
During an event for a Michigan-based religious institution, Farage outlined his viewpoint on the UK education system, claiming that the “radical left-wing” had “taken over schooling”.
“I’m anticipating a walkout by educators very quickly after securing a victory,” Farage commented in response to questions.
“They are poisoning our kids. They instruct children to be ashamed of their country. They are telling little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is oppressed and a white child of the same age that he is an oppressor. They create division, instead of fostering unity. They are feeding this harmful mindset.”
Reacting to Farage’s claims, Daniel Kebede rejected the notion that the schools were under Marxist influence as “nonsense”. Kebede noted that industrial action must relate to teachers’ terms and conditions, and questioned whether the party would target these right after taking office.
“Farage has built his public life on dog-whistle politics and currently, similar to other figures, he is lining up teachers and their unions for a fight,” the union leader said.
“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. Neither I nor our union – push critical race theory as he’s suggesting … If he were to lead the government he would undermine state services, particularly schooling … and he would be a disaster for students and learning.”
Reform, which is leading the polls by a significant margin, has provided limited specifics on its educational plans and seems not to have designated an education lead.
However, Farage’s remarks indicated the party would overhaul the educational framework. He said: “We face an enormous task with schooling – absolutely herculean. And, it won’t happen quickly; it requires years, years to turn this around.”
He stated that younger generations are receptive to critical thinking, but older youth were “completely lost”.
Paying tribute to a conservative activist, he commented: “My goal for schooling is to foster independent thought – to instruct people that multiple perspectives exist and you make up your own mind as opposed to current practices where one is virtuous and one is evil. It’s a massive job in the UK and US.”
The party has conflicted with the UK’s largest teaching union, after Kebede called the party “extremist and prejudiced” and described the leader as “a cheap imitation”.
Farage has accused Kebede of being “a self-declared Marxist” … someone who is absolutely determined that our children should be poisoned at school, their minds should be poisoned about everything to do with this country” and maintained that the organization seeks to brainwash teenagers against Reform.
Almost one million people work in schools in the UK, with educators comprising half and the remainder being assistants and administrative personnel. The leading teachers’ organization has about 450,000 members.
Countrywide walkouts over teacher pay and conditions in recent years caused widespread disruption in educational institutions and extensive missed instruction for students.
At the US event, Farage also vowed to promote the online educational material of the institution in the UK. He said organizations like it were “part of the fightback”, adding that: “I am serious. I will help garner hundreds of thousands, if not millions of youth to these educational programs. I pledge this tonight and I will follow through.”
The college, a religious educational establishment, offers free courses. Its website states: “Comprehensive learning is vital for well-being and to maintain the benefits of freedom. The college furnishes these excellent programs for free to all who wish to learn.”
