New Year's Revelers Told to Wrap Up Warm with Snow Forecast Across the UK
Forecasters have indicated an icy start to the new year, with snowfall likely across much of the UK. Revelers are being urged to wrap up as sub-zero temperatures are expected for New Year's Eve.
Hogmanay Plans Continue Despite Alerts
The Scottish capital's iconic Hogmanay events are expected to take place, following last year's postponement. This proceeds amid yellow warnings for snow over northern Scotland.
"A cold New Year's Eve night for those who are celebrating, so additional clothing will be needed," stated the weather service.
Displays Under Mostly Clear but Chilly Skies
In other parts of the UK, the weather is set to be suited to fireworks shows, with a lack of precipitation and clear skies. Readings are forecast to be cold, making additional clothing vital, as per forecasters.
Further north, conditions will be more overcast, but this is not expected to affect visibility for viewing fireworks. "We are not looking at low cloud, mist or murk, so you ought to be able to see fireworks, just not stars," added one forecaster.
Extensive Snow Warnings for New Year's Day
Heading into Friday, weather warnings have been issued for Northern Ireland and from Wales, over the north-west, the West Midlands and through to London and the majority of the south-east of England.

The Mercury Forecast to Drop Further
Going into the new year, it will be "frosty everywhere where you are," stated forecaster Simon Partridge. The weather are forecast to plummet as snow and gale-force winds are predicted to batter the north of the country.
About 10cm of snow is expected to have settled in some areas by Friday morning, reaching up to 30cm on the most elevated routes and peaks.
Public Health Warnings Released
Meanwhile, serious cold weather health warnings are in force for the north-east and north-west of England. These are set to remain in place until noon on 5 January, with readings forecast to fall to between 3C and 5C.
Officials stated this meant the weather was expected to lead to major effects across medical and care provision. This encompasses a likely increase in the fatality numbers among those with health conditions or those in the older age groups.
