Manchester United Set to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side

Schüller, who has six months remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a marquee signing for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its leading strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost the Attack

The experienced striker's arrival should represent a significant uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.

  • For seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Momentum at Carrington

Securing the German international comes at a time when United appear to be building positive momentum.

Recent performances feature securing a place in the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen additional activity:

  1. The acquisition of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “Miyazawa is now a critical part to the way we play. Her footballing intelligence and technical ability enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
