Canada's Blue Jays Claim World Series Matchup Against the Dodgers
The outfielder was instrumental for the Astros claiming the championship in 2017.
Toronto's Blue Jays advanced to their initial Fall Classic after 1993 by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.
Down by two runs, Springer delivered a three-run homer in the seventh frame, guiding the sole Canadian team in MLB to a 4-3 series win in the seven-game series. They will now face the defending champions, who are the current crown, in the upcoming Fall Classic.
"I'm thrilled for our team, the city, the nation," commented Springer, an integral part of the Houston Astros team that claimed the 2017 title. "It's truly an amazing experience."
Springer has now slugged twenty-three October home runs, making him third in history after Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (27).
"I can't think of anyone else on planet Earth that I'd prefer in that situation besides him with his playoff prowess," remarked Schneider.
The Mariners, who had led the series 2-0 and 3-2, continue to be the only MLB franchise never to appear in a World Series.
Manager Dan Wilson stated "there's no question that it's going to sting" after his side's defeat at Rogers Centre, but applauded their work throughout the year.
"They're an exceptional squad. Unfortunately that we ended up on the wrong side of this game," he remarked.
Toronto's team secured the title on both previous visits in the early 90s, and are set to host the Dodgers in the opener on the upcoming Friday.
